Planet? You've got to be kidding me. If Pluto isn't a planet, Vesta sure as heck isn't.

Wikipedia seems a bit ambiguous, however. Vesta appears in the asteroid article, but is also referred to and appears in the protoplanet article.

At any rate, that would suggest it is not a planet, but something else rather.

I don't agree that Pluto, Ceres, and Eris aren't planets either. The IAEA's definition of what constitutes a planet is fundamentally flawed because it doesn't take size, formation, or even orbiting a star into account. "Clearing" an orbital path should be a prerequisite. If Mars orbited with the TNOs then it probably wouldn't count either. Further, the IAEA's definition doesn't extend past the Sol system, which is a problem considering the vast number of extrasolar planets that have been discovered, and planet like objects that formed like stars but don't orbit a star.

One more thing... it's can't possibly be a protoplanet because its formation is over. A protoplanet is like a baby planet, something that will, or could evolve into a planet. It may have been at one time, but it is either a planet or a dwarf planet by now. It's also something entirely different than Pluto, and the two, if they aren't planets, shouldn't be in the same category. In biology it would be like putting a tree and a lizard in the same phylum.
