Who came out on top in the Wisconsin recalls?
commented: In practical terms, the Republicans did get the win... But the two seat pick up, and the fact that Walker's numbers and chances don't look good, does bode well for the Democrats and for the state... ...eventually.

Is it an incompatible position to be both pro-life and pro-death penalty?
commented: As long as one is claiming to be / using the term "pro-life," it's incompatible to take a "pro-death" position on anything, even if it is a penalty that seems justified.

But abortion is a tough issue, and whether one is "pro" or "anti-," there are too many possible reasons on which to make one's decision to simply claim anyone on either side (or gradient of side) is "pro" or "anti-" life. For the record, I'm personally opposed... Were it my child, or that of someone I care about or have influence over, I think I wouldn't do it, and/or would voice my opposition. But I also think other folks ought to be able to use their morals/ethics/spirituality/whatever, to make their own decision. (and whatever *I* believe, I have been in the waiting room in support of two friends had abortions, and I never judged them for doing so.)

Death penalty's easier for me... Don't believe in vengeance... Don't believe we humans are foolproof enough not to make mistakes... Support life in prison. Support denying parole. Can't support killing a guy we're pretty sure is guilty. Proud as hell that someone in my extended family (by marriage) stood up against the death penalty for the man who murdered her father and tried to murder her, to the point that she was threatened with jail time herself for contempt of court, for saying so on the stand. I'm not sure I could stand on principle like that, if it was me (which is just one reason why the penalty isn't chosen by the victim in our justice system.).

That's what I think, anyway...

Should the United States pull all troops out of Afghanistan?
commented: As long as the gov't and the military behaves as though they want us there and seems to be trying to get whatever it is we're giving them so they can stand on their own, I'm willing to support keeping enough troops and advisors there to do that job... But if they're not willing to take what we have to offer, or act like we are their defense force, and they can just go through the motions... Then it's time to leave them to sink or swim on their own...

It is costing us too much, both in blood and treasure... But it's worth it, if we can get them to defend themselves against radicals, both militarily and politically.

Should all candidates be included in every debate?
commented: For primary races, I's say it's a matter of qualification ( whatever that means at the time). Anyone who is qualified to be on the ballot where the debate is taking place, at least, and can theoretically win the primary in that state should be allowed to debate. (The longshot candidates tend to bring up the more controversial issues--making the frontrunners either address them or show themselves ducking them--and generally make the debates that much more interesting...)

Should all candidates be included in every debate?
answered: Well, there does have to be a limit, but it should be broader and more inclusive than Dem and 'pubbie

Should Bert and Ernie get married on 'Sesame Street'?
commented: Gay or not--and I think not, myself--they've been friends for a long time now... Let 'em be... (They are puppets, after all.)

If Sesame Street wants to work a same sex couple into the mileau to show another kind of family, I'm cool with that... (Do they do that? Have there been mentions of single mother or father families, or grandparent-led families, or... well, whatever else, on the show?) But Bert and Ernie are who they are, and that's who they should remain... ...And besides, isn't the endless speculation about them far more interesting than knowing for sure would or could ever be?
