I think the simulation argument misses a fourth possibility. Specifically, that the past doesn't need to be simulated to learn what we need from it.
For example, the principles of fluid dynamics do not need a atom or even molecule-level simulation to be extracted from the aggregate. Nor does a plane need to simulate a bird's feathers, nervous system, or other biological components to fly. Finally, we don't need to simulate a brain to do many things we thought were only possible with a brain like playing chess, playing jeopordy, voice recognition, driving cars, mathematical proofs, writing songs, etc... 6 months ago on January 4
